There are certain songs that are slow to be accepted, which need to be heard once, twice, fifty times before we realize their value, they win a place in the list songs, recommend, no one can die without listening. However, when you finally discover them become almost an obsession.
Idiot Wind by Bob Dylan is one of those songs for me. Here's why:
1 - must be a thousand times more difficult to write a good song for hatred, without falling into meanness, keeping the poetry, that a good love song. Well, Dylan still manages. And what song of hate, too.
2 - Dylan's vocal. Idiot Wind is the maximum rebuttal to criticism Dylan as a singer. Dominates the song superbly, it's yours completely. Up and down the excitement lengthening the syllables, as is his trademark (some once tried to sing a Dylan song, giving it that effect? It is a failure even before it has started, infinitely more difficult than it sounds). Her voice twists, squats, it breaks at the right times, bleeding. Visceral pain. How not to side with this poor guy was devastated by her lover?
3 - There is a verse in the entire song that has waste. From end to end, Dylan deployed heavy artillery, the whole domain of verbal and poetic he owns. The images it evokes, of those that listen to us to see, smell, know the time of day they happen, where they cause chills so real, so melancholy. The narrator Dylan in all its glory.
For reasons of length (the song has its good twelve paragraphs), I'll have to settle for quoting a couple no more:
"There's a lone soldier on the cross, smoke pourin 'out of a boxcar door, / You didn 't know it, You Did not Think It Could Be Done, in the end end I won the wars / After losin' Every battle. "
" The priest Wore black on the seventh day and sat stone-faced while the building burned. / I Wait for you on the running boards, near the cypress trees, while the springtime / Turned Into autumn slowly. "
4 - Unlike most of the songs of Dylan, the muse Idiot Wind, has a face and name, his wife, Sara Lownds. Although the relationship was then more twists and turns, Idiot Wind was written by Bob in the eye of the storm than it was the torturous separation from Sara.
The fact that such displays of hatred and contempt were inspired by his wife, makes the song even more vivid, more real, and therefore more effective in its impact.
5 - is the song with more fury than heard or listen to in my life. A really deep rage, moreover, that it appears to have been wounded in the depths. Almost in tears, Dylan last longer word of each line, making it a wrenching howl.
is a miracle that still know how to breathe, you're an idiot, babe, one day you'll be in the garbage, flies buzzing around you, you're down everything, I can not even touch the books you read. These are some of the things Dylan, pure venom, spits in the face of his wife.
But for this, there is no better show than the song itself.
"You hurt the ones That I love best and cover up the truth with lies. / One day you'll be in the ditch, flies buzzin 'around your eyes, / Blood on your saddle ."
"What's good is bad, what's bad is good, you'll find out When You Reach the top / You're on the bottom .”
“I noticed at the ceremony, your corrupt ways had finally made you blind/I can't remember your face anymore, your mouth has changed, your eyesdon't look into mine .”
“ I can't feel you anymore, I can't even touch the books you've read /Every time I crawl past your door, I been wishin' I was somebody else instead.”
“You'll never know the hurt I suffered nor the pain I rise above,/And I'll never know the same about you, your holiness or your kind of love,/ And it makes me feel so sorry .”
6 – De pie and clapping for this final.
"Idiot wind, blowing Through the buttons on Our coats, Blowing
That Through the letters we wrote,
Idiot wind, blowing-through the dust upon Our shelves,
're idiots, babe, it's a wonder we feed dog events ourselves. "
the end, it was the fault of both.
bootleg version
One day when the track still did not seem so impressive, I heard the shot, played only with guitar and harmonica, which is included in The Bootleg Series Vol. From then I find it impossible to separate from the other version. He revealed that the soul of the song is so intense that it completely transcends the instruments or arrangements, including the lyrics (many fragments are different from the edited version.) Besides evidence of these great things about Dylan: many pirated versions sound as good as those published officially, so that one does not know what to stay. Naked, harsher, more cruel and more sad, I like more than Blood on the Tracks .
